Paul R. Lachapelle
Paul Lachapelle is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Montana State University-Bozeman and serves as the Extension Community Development Specialist. Working in partnership with the Local Government Center, his responsibilities involve providing research, technical assistance and training on various community development topics in communities across the state. Specifically, he provides resources and programs in many areas including community strategic visioning, local governance, leadership development training, community tourism assessment and development, economic and business development, community profiling, conflict management and resolution, economic impact assessments, planning facilitation, and community surveys.
Paul earned his Ph.D. at the University of Montana's College of Forestry and Conservation in 2006 with a focus on natural resource policy and governance. He has conducted research and taught in both Montana and internationally with applied research, development work and language training in Nepal as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar. Other research and training includes work with Inuit in several arctic national parks with Parks Canada in the Canadian Territory of Nunavut, review and consultation of forest management and community development projects in Guinea, West Africa through the U.S. Forest Service International Programs, and research on the role of community governance in Kruger National Park, South Africa. Paul is author of many peer-reviewed journal articles on local governance and strategic planning.
